Let’s review.

I’ve been an art therapist for over 20 years.

My master’s degree from Loyola Marymount University gave me everything I needed to become both an art therapist and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

In 2011, I moved to Salt Lake City.

Here, I’ve worked in residential, built my private practice, and become a university instructor for MSW students, art therapy students, and local undergrads. Utah is a wonderful place to be an art therapist if you have a pioneering spirit; there’s no pre-built molds for art therapists to fit into (for better and worse).

I also survived cancer. Twice. During COVID.

And, it’s true what they say about cancer and prioritiies and limited time and mortality. In 2024, as my treatment was ending, I took a shot at my lifelong dream of learning research strategies to better understand, inform, and elevate the practice of art therapy.

Listen. My admission to the University of Utah’s Social Work PhD program shocked me, too. There’s no art therapy school in Utah, but I get to learn about research from an R1 institution and apply it to art therapy.

Now what?

After just one year of PhD coursework, there’s already so much I want to tell you.

If you’re still reading, I hope you’ll follow me. I want to talk with you about what you’re doing and how creativity and curiosity can change the world.

❤️ I’d love to hear your thoughts.
